Learning How to Pickle

My mom came up for a spontaneous visit this weekend and we spent Saturday afternoon pickling vegetables. We used a traditional Vietnamese recipe for the brine.  So simple and so yummy! Next time I'm going to try to make some spiced pickled carrots like the ones they serve at Tartine. Double yum!

  1. Mon! I love pickles! My Grandma taught me how when I lived with her -- we mostly made bread & butter pickles, but we tried a few others, too.

    But! We never cut the carrots like that -- so pretty! :)

    We did make spiced carrot pickles -- not sure if they are the same kind.

    And! The best ones we made? sweet yellow banana peppers stuffed with sauerkraut and pickled! It doesn't sound that great but it was soooo good! Yum!
